Three named to R.I. Press Association Hall of Fame

Three veteran Rhode Island journalists will be inducted into the Rhode Island Press Association Hall of Fame later this month. Their induction will take place at the Press Association’s annual awards dinner, on Friday, April 29, at the Quonset “O” Club in North Kingstown.

The inductees are: * The late James Baron, who covered state politics for the Pawtucket Times for almost three decades and was a highly respected practitioner of his craft. * Arline Fleming, a retired feature writer for the Providence Journal whose stories anchored the cover of the Journal’s South County Edition for 24 years. * Leonard Levin, longtime copydesk chief at the Providence Journal and the newspaper’s authority on style, grammar and usage for many years.

Besides the Hall of Fame inductions, awards will be presented to Rhode Island journalists for outstanding work as reporters, photographers and editors. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7. The Quonset “O” Club is at 200 Lt. James Brown Road on the former Quonset Point Navy base. The awards dinner is open to the public.
