Our 2015 Editorial Awards contest is LIVE!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of year again! Our 2015 Editorial Awards contest is LIVE. And, now, a welcoming note from Vice President Susan Areson:

Welcome to the 2015 Rhode Island Press Association Editorial Contest. Our annual awards competition has grown tremendously in recent years. Last year was the first time that the majority of entries to our contest were submitted and judged online, putting us in line with journalism contests nationwide. The online contest platform -- https:// awards.newportri.com -- remains the same. However, due to issues with the credit card authorization process, we will not accept payment by credit card this year. You have until 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2016 to enter your material, but we encourage submitting entries early – in case you have questions about the online system. This year’s contest will feature a total of 42 categories, covering everything from a short news story or single photograph to in-depth, comprehensive news coverage that takes took months of time and effort to produce. We have created two separate categories for investigative/analytical news story and single-topic series, which previously were combined. This allows more flexibility for entries of in-depth enterprise reporting. We encourage all members to nominate individual journalists from their news organizations for special awards in these categories: * Distinguished journalist of the year * Notable new reporter of the year * Photographer of the year Lastly, we encourage our smaller news organizations to highlight their work in two Community Newspaper of the Year categories -- daily and weekly. The winners of these awards are recognized for the efforts they make to serve their community’s readers. As always, we welcome suggestions for improving future contests. We hope to see everyone at our annual banquet on April 29, 2016 at the Quonset “O” Club in North Kingstown. Until then, thank you for supporting the Rhode Island Press Association and best of luck in this year’s contest.

-Susan Areson Vice President, Rhode Island Press Association
