The Rhode Island Press Association would like to congratulate the winner of our annual journalism scholarship: Pia Charlotta Peterson. Ms. Peterson graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2009 with majors in History and Spanish Language and Literature. She will attend Columbia University School of Journalism for a master's degree in the fall, where she hopes to concentrate on writing about social and environmental issues. Three named to R.I. Press Association Hall of Fame
Three veteran Rhode Island journalists will be inducted into the Rhode Island Press Association Hall of Fame later this month.
Their induction will take place at the Press Association’s annual awards dinner, on Friday, April 29, at the Quonset “O” Club in North Kingstown. The inductees are:
* The late James Baron, who covered state politics for the Pawtucket Times for almost three decades and was a highly respected practitioner of his craft.

Our statement on today's Decision by the Rhode Island Supreme Court: The Rhode Island Press Association strongly disagrees with the decision rendered today by the Rhode Island Supreme Court in regard to The Providence Journal's request for public records in the investigation of Caleb Chafee. Not only does today's decision further erode the idea of transparency in Rhode Island state government, it sets a dangerous precedent moving forward by hampering the ability of journalist
